When choosing a new bit for your horse or pony, there are several points you need to take into consideration:
- The shape of your horses mouth (size of tongue, thickness of lips, height of palate etc)
- The discipline that you require the bit for (dressage, hunting, hacking, jumping)
- The age and ability of the horse (youngsters find it hard to carry themselves, let alone a rider!)
- How experienced the rider is
So again, to make life easier, at Equessentials we have a bit bank facility. From Myler and Neuschule, to JP Korsteel, you’re bound to find something to make your horse or pony more comfortable and therefore perform better for you!
Simply pay the cost of your chosen bit and go and try it out for the recommended 7-10 days. If you find during that time that the bit is not suitable, just bring it back with your receipt and get a refund, minus the £10 hire charge. And then try another bit!
Further information about bitting is available to take away with your new bit to help you understand the concept of bitting in more detail and therefore understand your horse better. Horses will only perform to their best ability if they are comfortable!
